Dvorak Uncensored » Microsoft Open Review: Vista — Download Link
While getting myself motivated to hit the road this morning I decided to review a few of the blogs I subscribe to. This particular post in John Dvorak’s blog grabbed my attention and for about a half hour I forgot I drive truck for a living and am already a beta tester for Microsoft. Now understand, I’m not in either camp in regards to religiosity of OS’s. I do currently, and have been a long time Windows user. Have dabbled a bit with Linux and have rolled up my sleeves and gotten down and dirty with many other technologically enhanced toys. It is simply that I find less time to be enthused with beta testing the latest anything. Everyday over the road is a beta test on already purchased pc hardware ranging from my laptop to the Satellite Dish I have mounted on the back of my Volvo VN670 (Which by the way is currently in need of repair). The fatiguing fact is that the beta tests are coming up with consistantly negative results.
Admittedly, eguipment is getting more rigid and much more sturdy given the intricate design manufacturers are using with the available technology common these days. But the bottom line is that due to the road condition, coupled with a suspension system design that makes it seemingly more pleasant to be tossed around in the wake of hurricane Katrina than it is to be situated behind the wheel of modern day load haulers. The technology that most of the world is able to enjoy is lasting but a fleeting moment for OTR drivers.
Regardless, though I am intersted in giving Vista a try in it’s current public beta state, I have to give in to common sense and wait. I hate to depart the edge that I have so often lived on, but by the time Vista comes installed on over-the-counter pc’s, I will probably be in the market for some sort of new window to the cyber world.
