The more I run in the trucking business the more I hope the free market will start to weed out those trucking businesses that mistreat the driver. Especially since lately there is a steady barrage of news reports about the great “driver shortage”. With my lease nearing an end I am in the process of looking for a career shift. Maybe towards a company that shares at least some of my vision thereby putting the free market to work in my favor. So when another driver pointed to an advertisement in The Trucker for a company that among other grandiose promises, offered a guarantee of 3500 miles a week. I decided to give them a call. They faxed me information of what the expected and among those expectations was a fee of $100, which they don’t clarify what it is used for. Handling fee? Office fees?
Whatever it is used for, it makes me wary that they are so sure of their offer that they don’t even want to put any of the companies resources towards marketing to new drivers and instead have the driver fork up this miscellaneous fee on the strength of nothing but vague promises.
So I have taken to using the nets resources and have found among the most helpful out there Rip-off Report.com. What I have found helpful about them is that they offer as their slogan reads “A service of BAD business bureau.com” They leave all complaints up and the only way a company on the “ripoff list” can clean up their record is to post a rebuttal. 8 ripoff reports have already been listed for Hurricane Express, so this site proved to be a useful tool for me.

Curtis,
Check with CCC. I know someone that works there and seems very happy
Good luck on your search. Don’t send the $100 to apply for a job.. Geez…
